Level 2 is typically 240V, single phase AC input, and is the most common type of charging for your electric car available in the United States. Level 2 charging is used for charging electric vehicles at home (single-family homes, condominiums, apartment buildings, etc.) or public locations (shopping centers, hotels, airports, parking garages, etc). Depending on the electric vehicle charge rate and the state of its battery, a Level 2 EV charger can deliver somewhere between 10 - 25 miles per hour of charging. Public charge stations are equipped with Type1/Type2-outlets or Type1/Type2-plugs on cable. A plug on cable can be directly connected to your vehicle in contrast to the outlet. Charge stations with outlets requires charging cords to connect the vehicle. Columb World offers all type of charging cords with converting options from Type 1 to Type 2 or vice versa. We only sell spiral based cables since they are by far easiest to handle in trunk of the car
DC Fast Charging (DCFC) is typically 480V, 3-Phase AC input and is used for charging electric vehicles in commercial locations, as it requires more electrical infrastructure. Therefore, DC Fast Chargers are currently not as widespread as Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations. While DC Fast Chargers can charge an EV more rapidly than Level 2 charging stations (for example, a Nissan LEAF can charge on a DCFC from 0% to 85% in ~30 minutes), they are not typically compatible with all electric cars. There are two types of connectors that currently support DC Fast Chargers: CHAdeMO and SAE Combo. DC Fast Charging connectors vary by station manufacturer and electric vehicle. Our DC Fast Chargers currently offer the CHAdeMO connector, but there are plans to incorporate other standards, such as the SAE combo and Tesla’s proprietary connector, in the futureDC Fast Chargers (DCFC) are ideal for charging electric vehicles in high-traffic commercial locations, fleets installations, gas stations, and at locations along major transportation corridors.Coulomb World DC Fast Charging station is classified as a DC (480 volt 3-Phase AC input) electric car charging station. There are currently two DC fast charging standards: CHAdeMO and CCS. Many DC fast charging stations, such as those operated by the Hawaiian Electric Companies, support both standards. Although the charging station has two cords, one for each standard, it can charge only one EV at a time, much as a gasoline pump provides unleaded or diesel fuel, but only to one vehicle at a time.
Note: to maintain battery specifications, some EVs will terminate a DC fast charge session before the battery is full.
